HURST duo secondment success!

Posted: Dec 20, 2020

Two rising stars at HURST have completed full-time assignments on secondment to online retailing giant The Hut Group.

Kate Olivier and Issie Luscombe, who work in our tax and business services teams, were called upon to assist the recently-listed e-commerce and technology group with financial projects.

Working from home, Kate completed nearly six months with the company while Issie was seconded for just over four months.

Kate worked with THG’s finance team to implement a new financial management software system.

Issie, working with the group reporting team, prepared statutory accounts for a number of the group’s UK subsidiaries.

THG, which listed on the London Stock Exchange in September, is a vertically-integrated digital-first consumer brands group, retailing its own brands, in beauty and nutrition, plus third-party brands, via its proprietary technology platform to an online and global consumer base.

Kate, who qualified as a chartered accountant in 2017, said: “THG has grown exponentially and, when the secondment opportunity arose I jumped at the chance. I was thrilled to be an extra pair of hands to help implement the new system.

“It was a great experience to work with a company of that size and scale.”

Issie, who joined HURST as a graduate in 2016 and qualified last year, said: “It was a really interesting and positive experience to work with THG and to see the commercial side of accounting.”

HURST partner Simon Brownbill, our director of practice development, said: “We have been offering secondment opportunities to colleagues for some time. These have included international assignments, mainly in the USA, as well as closer to home with clients and other contacts.

“We see them as a real benefit for our people, who get an opportunity to broaden their experience. The host benefits too, from having professional experts working on specific short-term projects.”
