HURST’S CONTRIBUTION TO DEALMAKERS’ “BIBLE”
March 2007

Our tax expertise, especially in transactional work, has been recognised by the publishers of a book which is set to become the corporate finance “bible” for owner-managed businesses.

London publishers Kogan Page invited HURST to write the key taxation section of the book which has just been published. Entitled Mergers & Acquisitions - A Practical Guide for Private Companies and their UK and Overseas Advisors - the 288-page book retails at £55.

It provides a detailed explanation of the options available to companies considering merging with or acquiring other businesses, and the processes involved. Written by leading players in the field, it explores the strategic issues that may arise and the challenges that will be encountered. It focuses particularly on the legal, taxation and financial implications.

The section of the book written by David Nolan and Sarah Salton of HURST’s Tax Consulting Team sets out the need for tax planning and looks at how tax costs can be minimised by all parties to the deal.

Said HURST tax partner Rachel Murphy: “The benefits of acquiring a new company or merging with another can be extensive, but there can be stumbling blocks on the way. This new book is unique because it prepares participants for the effective management of a merger and acquisition project, taking them right through the project from initial strategy to finally doing the deal.

“Our tax expertise is well known amongst north west dealmakers and we appreciated the publisher’s invitation to make this key contribution to the book. It means we can share our experience and knowledge with owner-managed businesses who will be using the book as their invaluable dealmaking guide.”
